Jeans That Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles


Original blue-jean companies make an effort to turn green iconic garment.
On Tuesday, Levi Strauss announced the launch of "Waste <Less," the upcoming collection of denim that combines post-consumer waste, specifically plastic bottles and food trays.
Set to debut in January, the line of skinny jeans, straight-fit jeans and trucker jackets will consist of a minimum of 20 percent recycled content, or the equivalent of eight 12 - to 20-ounce bottles per jean. The entire collection is expected to draw more than 3.5 million recycled bottles, according to Levi.

Levi will work with its partners to collect polyethylene terephthalate (PET) materials including brown beer bottles, green bottles of soda, bottled water is crystal clear, and black food tray-through recycling programs in cities across the United States. Bottles and food trays are sorted by color, crushed into flakes, and spun into polyester. Finally woven polyester fibers with conventional cotton yarn with Cone Denim, which runs one of the nation's oldest denim factory in North Carolina.

"We not only want to reduce the impact on the environment, we want to leave it better than we found it," added curleigh. "We are committed to making the product in a way that is good for people and better for our planet."
